Finally we had the chance to drive and film the new Mazda MX-5 ND. This particular MX-5 is the more powerful version available, the 2.0 Skyactiv G. It has 160 hp @ 6000 rpm and 200 Nm @ 4600 rpm and it weighs a little over 1000kg. The first thing you'll notice after just a few meters with the "ND" it's how good the gearbox is: it's incredibly precise and the shifter itself feels amazing in your hands. Then there is the driving position, which is just about perfect and all the controls are easy to reach and operate. The car shown in the video has glossy-black exterior aero kit and it sits on lowered suspensions. Those little details make the car look more aggressive. "Who need an electric operating roof, when you can open it with one hand in about 5 seconds?" As soon as you start driving faster, you'll notice that the new MX-5 is quick, light and very precise. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 7.3 seconds, but it actually feels faster than that. The car does what you want it to do, it goes exactly where you want to. And, if you really want to do something fun, you can always give more gas on the exit of a corner and the rear tires will be happy to lose traction for a moment. It really feels like a little sportscar, the new MX-5, maybe because (at least in our opinion) it is.
